OFFSHORE ENERGY INDUSTRY RAISES ITS GLASS TO WINNERS
Nine winners are applauded for outstanding innovation at the 2nd annual Offshore Energy Achievement Awards black-tie gala
HOUSTON (December 9, 2005) –Innovation, engineering expertise, remarkable ingenuity and humanitarian efforts were all recognized last night as nine winners of the prestigious Offshore Energy Achievement Awards were announced at the black-tie gala awards ceremony held at the Hilton Americas-Houston hotel.
Anticipation had been building since the 29 finalists were announced on November 4.  They were selected from a pool of more than 100 nominations from around the world. Relief finally came when winners were named in eight distinct categories including Health, Safety & Environmental, Industry Champion, Project of the Year, Emerging Innovation/Technology, Well Construction, Production/Facilities, Geoscience and newly added, Contribution to the Community, which recognized two companies for their community efforts.
“This is an exciting night for the offshore oil and gas industry. Industry leaders have gathered tonight to celebrate companies paving the way for future industry advancement. There are no hard feelings tonight because each participating company has played a key part in securing lasting achievements that ultimately impact everyone,” said Kevin Lacy, 2005 OEAA selection committee chairman and vice president of global drilling and completions for Chevron Corporation.

The winners in each category are:
· HSE (Health, Safety & Environment)
o Sentinel PRO Integrated Safe System of Work – Petrotechnics
Developed web-based Integrated Safe System of Work (ISSOW) in response to need for standardized safety management processes. ISSOW, utilized by 14,000 workers in 11 countries, manages frontline work execution enhancing safety, productivity, and cost reduction.


· Industry Champion
o Collegiate Council – ASME International Petroleum Technology Council (Houston)
American Society of Mechanical Engineers established the Collegiate Council reaching almost 3,000 engineering majors per year at various colleges to generate interest in the petroleum industry.


· Project of the Year
o Benguela Belize Project – Chevron (Houston)
Identified optimum solution for production development offshore Africa, utilizing a worldwide contractor and company team coordinating across many time zones, organizations, and technical interfaces. Project was executed in an impressive 32-month cycle.


· Emerging Innovation/Technology
o Dynamic Annular Pressure Control (DAPC) – At Balance Americas, LLC (Houston)
DAPC was designed to improve drilling capabilities in mature oil fields and depleted reservoirs where more precise pressure control can be applied to maintain constant bottomhole pressure and achieve the drilling objective.


· Well Construction
o WARP Fluids Technology – M-I SWACO (Houston)
M-I SWACO’s WARP Fluids Technology is a finely ground weighting agent that provides the necessary suspension in a wellbore for the most efficient operation.


· Production/Facilities
o Garden Banks 783 Magnolia – ConocoPhillips (Houston)
Achieved an ambitious goal of zero recordable incidents or lost workday cases during the start-up and operations phase of the project.


· Geoscience
o Improvements in Deepwater Subsalt Imaging through advances in Data Acquisition – Schlumberger &  WesternGeco (Sugar Land)
Improved imaging in areas where the geology is extremely complex, allowing for better identification of prospective well locations and reduced risk in exploration and production.

· Contribution to the Community – New for 2005 –
o Anneliese Kulakofsky, Halliburton
Started a free summer camp for children with cancer called Camp Quality where the motto is "Letting Kids with Cancer be Kids Again.”  After spending hours in the hospital with treatments and surgeries, these kids need a chance to have fun in a safe environment.  Camp Quality provides the only opportunity for time away for most of these kids and a break for their parents.

o Baker Hughes
Committed to having an impact on the communities where they live and work, Baker Hughes and their employees donated money, time and supplies to help those affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. On an ongoing basis, Baker Hughes supports many organizations including Child Advocates, March of Dimes, the American Diabetes Association, the MS150, Junior Achievement, Partners in Education, Special Olympics, and many more.
